Emirates Goldsmiths Explore Gold and Jewelry Technologies in China
The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, represented by the “Sagha Emirates” platform, organised a visit to the People's Republic of China to learn about the latest global experiences and technologies in the gold and jewellery sector and to draw on them in developing the skills and creativity of Emirati designers, as well as to explore opportunities for cooperation and the exchange of expertise with entities, factories and specialists in the field.
The Chamber's delegation was headed by Mona Al Suwaidi, Director of the Executive Office at Sharjah Chamber and Head of the “Sagha Emirates” platform, accompanied by a number of Emirati designers and artisans. The delegation learned about the working methods followed in jewellery making and its various production stages, the nature of the professional specialisations associated with it, and the tools and equipment used in design, goldsmithing, shaping, stone setting, finishing and inspection.
The visit included the Gold Museum and the district specialised in gold and jewellery trading and manufacturing, where the delegation learned about the history and development of the gold industry and a variety of traditional and contemporary Chinese pieces and designs.
The delegation was also introduced to the stages of making a gold piece, from concept and design, through shaping, goldsmithing and assembly, to polishing, inspection and final packaging, as well as methods of displaying products, the organisation of specialised markets, and the mechanisms connecting designers, artisans, factories and suppliers.
In Shenzhen, the delegation visited the specialised gold and jewellery exhibition, which brought together a number of companies, factories, designers, and suppliers of the equipment, stones and materials used in jewellery making.
The delegation viewed the latest technologies, innovations and designs, including 3D design and printing technologies, laser cutting and engraving, casting and precision shaping, polishing and finishing equipment, gold and gemstone testing devices, stone-setting techniques, and the digital software used in jewellery design.
Mona Al Suwaidi affirmed that the visit reflects the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry's commitment to supporting the gold and jewellery sector and to opening Emirati designers and artisans up to advanced global experience, noting that the “Sagha Emirates” platform is one of the tools through which the Chamber empowers national talent, develops its capabilities, and opens new horizons for it to learn, connect and exchange expertise with specialists in global markets.
She explained that the visit offered a close-up look at the skills of craftsmen and specialists in the gold and jewellery sector and the nature of their work across the various production stages, as well as the experience of combining traditional crafts with modern technologies, and the potential that digital solutions and advanced equipment offer for developing designs, raising manufacturing precision and productivity, and reducing waste.
She stressed that the outcomes of the visit will support the platform's direction in developing the skills of designers and artisans and making use of modern technologies in design and manufacturing, as well as exploring opportunities for cooperation and the exchange of expertise and organising joint training workshops with specialists in China.
In another part of the visit, during its tour of the Perfume Museum in Guangzhou, the delegation learned about the history of perfume making in China and its production stages, the methods of extracting scents and essential oils, and the natural materials used in their composition, as well as the traditional and modern tools used in extraction, blending and bottling, offering insight into a model that combines cultural heritage with modern technologies in developing innovative products.
