Emirates Intellectual Property Association Participates in WIPO Meetings in Geneva to Enhance International Cooperation
The Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA) is participating in the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in their sixty-eighth session, currently being held in the city of Geneva and continuing until 15 July.
The Association's participation, through a delegation headed by Major General Dr. Abdul Quddous Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidli, Chairman of the Association's Board of Directors, comes within the framework of supporting the UAE's efforts to enhance its global standing in the field of intellectual property, consolidate its presence in international forums, and develop partnerships with organisations and entities concerned with innovation and the protection of intellectual property rights.
In his address to the WIPO assemblies, Major General Dr. Abdul Quddous Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidli affirmed that the Emirates Intellectual Property Association continues to strengthen its partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization, pointing to the implementation of the capacity-building programme in the enforcement of intellectual property laws, from which 26 officers from police leaderships at the Ministry of Interior graduated, in addition to preparations to launch a specialised programme to build the capacities of customs personnel across the country, and a skills programme for trademark registration agents, with the participation of experts from WIPO and the Ministry of Economy and Tourism.
He added that the Association continues to expand the scope of its cooperation at the Gulf, Arab, and regional levels, through organising the second Gulf Intellectual Property Conference in cooperation with the Bahrain Intellectual Property Association, preparations to organise the fifth Arab Intellectual Property Conference in partnership with the Arab Administrative Development Organisation, in addition to the continuation of annual cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to organise the fifteenth regional conference for combating crimes affecting intellectual property, scheduled to be held in Dubai on 15 and 16 December.
The Association is participating in the exhibition accompanying the UAE pavilion, presenting to delegations of member states and international organisations its most prominent initiatives and programmes in spreading intellectual property culture, capacity building, and specialised training, and its efforts in supporting innovation and enhancing respect for intellectual property rights at the local, Gulf, Arab, and international levels.
