Two Young Men Assault Employee at ADNOC Station.. Al Ain Court Convicts Them

The Court ordered the convicted persons to perform community service for a period of two months at the same fuel filling station where the incident occurred, and fined each of them 50,000 dirhams, for committing the offences of assaulting an employee charged with a public service and disturbing public order.

The details of the case go back to a report received stating that the two defendants had assaulted the victim following a dispute relating to the cleaning of the windscreen of the first defendant's vehicle. The driver of the vehicle asked for the windscreen to be cleaned, and when the victim informed him that the station was busy and that he would have to wait for some time, an altercation broke out between them which developed into an assault, resulting in the victim sustaining pain and scattered bruises, documented in a medical report.

In its ruling, the Criminal Court relied on the evidence contained in the case file, foremost among which was the transcript of the security cameras, which established the details of the altercation and the assault by the defendants, alongside their confession before the Court, as well as the statements of the witnesses to the incident and the medical report attached to the case papers.

In the grounds of its judgment of conviction, the Court explained that the ruling comes in application of the provisions of the Crimes and Penalties Law, which criminalises assaulting a public official or a person charged with a public service, or resisting him by force or violence during or by reason of the performance of his duties, stressing that respecting the law and resorting to official channels when any dispute arises is the ideal conduct for avoiding legal accountability.
