UAE Hands Over Wanted Irishman Daniel Kinahan to His Authorities

His Excellency Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, and His Excellency Jim O'Callaghan, Minister for Justice of the Republic of Ireland, held a telephone call concerning the Irish national Daniel Kinahan, whom the UAE handed over to the Irish authorities pursuant to an official request from them, to be prosecuted in cases relating to transnational organised crime, including accusations of leading a criminal organisation, murder and illicit trafficking in narcotics.

The final decision on the extradition came in execution of a ruling issued by the Dubai Court of Cassation, and on the basis of the extradition treaty concluded between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Ireland.

The two ministers affirmed that the decision embodies a shared commitment to the rule of law, and reflects the advanced level of judicial cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Ireland in confronting transnational organised crime, particularly international criminal networks involved in murder and the illicit trafficking of narcotics.

They stressed that the decision sends a clear message that the perpetrators of serious crimes will find no safe haven in which to escape justice, and that international cooperation represents a fundamental pillar in pursuing dangerous criminal elements and bringing them before the courts.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi renewed the commitment of the United Arab Emirates to continue strengthening judicial cooperation with the Republic of Ireland and its judicial partnerships with the international community, affirming that this achievement reflects the standing of the State as a trusted international partner in the field of judicial cooperation, and its firmly established approach in supporting international efforts to combat transnational organised crime, to pursue the perpetrators of serious crimes and to prevent them from escaping justice, in a manner that contributes to strengthening security and stability and entrenching the rule of law regionally and internationally.

For his part, His Excellency Jim O'Callaghan expressed his appreciation to the Emirati authorities for their sustained efforts in the extradition proceedings, commending the efficiency demonstrated by the competent judicial bodies in the United Arab Emirates.

He affirmed that the decision represents an important milestone in the course of judicial cooperation between the two countries, and embodies the importance of the bilateral partnership in confronting transnational organised crime.
